Message from the General Secretary Print E-mail

What is our vision for WACC’s future? What is our self-understanding and our identity?

What is the context, what is the environment, in which WACC is going to operate in the future?

Who will be our partners and how do we want to be structured as a global organization?

These are questions which we want to address in our Strategic Planning Process. The context, in which WACC is operating, has changed significantly over the years – there are new challenges, but also new opportunities.

The WACC Officers have inaugurated a process and invited WACC’s broad family of stakeholders to play an active role in shaping the plan.

  1. On the level of the WACC Regions, the Assemblies will play a crucial role in the discourse. A WACC staff person will attend each Assembly to provide information about the WACC strategic planning process. Please make time at your assemblies for this important discernment process!
  2. We are determined to give all WACC Members the opportunity to provide input. Therefore we will host webinars as well as conduct an Internet survey which will be translated also into French and Spanish. Some members may not be able to have easy access to the internet. The will therefore also have the opportunity to download the survey and return it by e-mail. At the same time we will introduce a “members only” on-line space for comments.
  3. WACC funding (and potential) partners will be invited to a round table meeting with the WACC Officers and project partners at the end of April. Those who cannot attend will be contacted separately.
  4. Also our project partners will be able to give important input through partner consultation forums as well as through the round table meeting in Finland.
  5. WACC Directors and Officers are the “trustees” of the organization. Their role is key in the strategic planning process as they will approve the overall direction as well as the allocation of financial resources.
  6. The overall process will also be accompanied by a Strategic Planning Advisory Committee which represents the various WACC stakeholders.
  7. Moreover, WACC is part of the larger ecumenical family as well as international organizations – these organizations will also be invited to provide input.
It will be a complex and challenging process; and it most certainly will be a learning process for most of us.

I am excited about this process which provides us with a great opportunity to grow together!

Rev. Karin Achtelstetter
General Secretary
